Sasha Harrison is one of the main characters in the first season of Another Life. He is portrayed by Jake Abel.
He is the son of the U.S. Secretary of Defense, serving as the government's representative and diplomatic liaison aboard The Salvare.
After making contact with the alien species on a moon that the team stops on in order to gather supplies, he begins to hallucinate another version of himself, that begins to torment him, as his mental state devolves. Said hallucination consistently tells Sasha to "Let him in", leading him to almost eject himself from the ship in order to make the hallucination stop. He also seeks medical help from Zayn Petrossian, who runs a few tests and gives him advice on meditation. This issue seems to be solved at the end of Episode 6, with Sasha logging into his medical information and deleting the tests mentioned above, the test showing a bug-like thing attached to his brain.
In episode eight, the team finds out about this as Sasha drugs the group in an attempt to shut down William. Only by doing this would he be able to destroy the ship, as the ship has the power to destroy a planet (should peace talks prove unsuccessful). known as 'Operation Brimstone'.
In episode ten, he is strapped into the med bay, being tortured by the Achaia that has been possessing him. He begs to be killed, but is refused. He then pretends to have a seizure after discussions of using him as a guinea pig in order to study the Achaia. When Zayn rushes in to check on him, he chokes Zayn, saying that Bernie had better kill him, or he would kill Zayn. Bernie kills him with a shot to the head.
Throughout the Series[]
Season 1[]
The mission was supposed to take six months – three months to Pi Canis Majoris and three months back. Assuming all went according to plan. A month into the journey and Niko is awoken from Soma sleep. She's been awoken because the Salvare hasn't yet reached Pi Canis Majoris.
Apparently, the scientists on Earth got the incorrect coordinates for the system – it will now take around seven more months to get there. William, the holographic computer (AI), informs Niko of all this.
The Salvare crew was feeling awkward when Niko was placed in charge instead of Ian.
Ian Yerxa was the previous captain of the ship, so there's a bit of tension around the leadership now that Niko's been put in charge. Most of the rest of the crew have worked under Ian and are ‘feeling a little awkward’ with this new situation.
The argument about the ship's course upsets some of the crew, especially Michelle Vargas, who feels that Ian should challenge Niko more. The crew can't seem to get along with each other, forget with their new leader.
Unfortunately for Niko, the crew backs Ian's play – they stage a mutiny and put her into Soma sleep. Niko puts up one hell of a fight and it was only Ian's backhanded tactics that got the better of her.
Ian took control of the Salvare, which made a few crew members feel uneasy.
Ian threatens William, the computer, into following his orders. In fact, Ian seems to have considerable sway over most of his crew. Zayn Petrossian, the ship psychologist, isn't given much choice in declaring whether Niko is unfit to command or not. Sasha Harrison, the government representative aboard the ship, is put on the spot to recognise Ian's leadership. It's all hasty and rash, and despite William's attempted rebellion, he must follow Ian's orders now.
William changes course towards Sirius A and Ian commands the engineer, August, to engage the shield. Though the shield works, the flares damage the FTL (faster-than-light) drive and the ship is basically unable to fly away from the star. While Niko is peacefully dreaming of being back home with Erik and her daughter Jana, the Salvare is being torn apart.
Niko took manual control of the ship and managed to save everyone.
In a panic, August wakes Niko up and she immediately takes control of the situation. Banishing Ian from the bridge, Niko takes manual control of steering and slingshots off the star to safety.
Niko may have saved everyone, but the ship has sustained plenty of damage. All comms are down and the Soma system is offline. There are replacement crew members asleep, and they aren't affected, but no new chambers can be activated.
Niko told everyone that she had killed Yerxa, which causes discomfort.
Niko tells the crew of the Salvare that she killed Ian because he was a threat, which worries most of them and causes them to get angry. Bernie and Javier support her and Niko reminds them of the mission, but Michelle calls her a murderer and wants to throw her out of the ship. There is a crash and they start losing oxygen.
Michelle is startled by Sasha who wakes up. Sasha is not feeling good and remembers how he passed out in front of everyone, which makes Michelle laugh. She asks for his hand and rubs a pressure point which would make him feel better. Sasha asks if everyone hates him, but she says that not everyone. Sasha says that he can help and Michelle tells him that he can make sure that they're not accomplices to murder, being a congressman. He tells her to watch her mouth around Niko.
Later, Cas tells everyone that Ian was her rival at first, but thanks him for helping her grow as an astronaut and believed that in his heart, he thought he was right. However, during the eulogy, Petra starts retching uncontrollably and cracking her spine and other bones. Zayn does not know what to do and the crew does nothing but watch.
Cas goes to Michelle's room and tells her that they would be going to the moon she had found, but she is called by Zayn to soma. After Cas leaves, Sasha and Michelle start kissing, while the former takes her bra off.
The crew of the Salvare reached the moon, hoping to find food there.
The crew of the Salvare reach the moon. Niko tells them to pump water - even Sasha, who complains. Bernie is wearing a full body suit so as to protect himself from viruses and even though William had done a full scan of the moon, Bernie was not going to risk encountering another boron-based lifeform. Zayn convinces him to take his mask off and Cas and Niko go visit the Artifact. Cas wonders if Niko questions her navigation, but she simply replies that she did not see the lights.
Bernie wonders why there is no animal life and Sasha starts blasting music. Niko tells Bernie and Zayn to go get food while Sasha begins contacting the planet in Spanish. Niko then approaches Cas and tells her that they should speak privately, but Cas does not listen.
Niko says The Artifact is missing pieces, which Cas believed was weird. Niko says that they should pick up a piece in order to analyze it, but Sasha refuses to leave the Artifact because she has no jurisdiction over his job. He tells her that if he has a problem, she should talk to his father, the Secretary of Defense. Niko and Cas leave after that and tell him not to go anywhere.
Zayn disinfected Bernie's leg after he was attacked by a small alien.
Zayn asks Niko and Cas if Sasha had made progress, but they reveal that they had left him alone. Bernie thinks that is ridiculous, but has an animal jump on him and surprise him, which makes him fall and cut himself a little. They keep walking and Bernie hates the food Zayn hated too. All of a sudden. Bernie's leg gives out and is green, so Zayn tries to disinfect it, which causes Bernie to go through a lot of pain.
Sasha explains to the Artifact how Earth works, but is getting no answer. Suddenly, he hears his own voice, saying what he had said before. Something from the Artifact grabs him and pulls him in. As Cas and Niko walked, they talk about Yerxa and Niko tells her about James Hudson, the Pilgrim commander, who she was in love with before Erik.
Niko and Cas look for Sasha, but do not find him. Suddenly he walks back to them and tell them that he had a weird dream. Zayn and Bernie walk over to them. Bernie tells them that he is growing a tree in his leg and Zayn tells them that they need to move him to the ship before he died. As they moved to the Salvare, Sasha walked behind them very slowly. Zayn notices something moving below ground and they start running as a spider-like creature approaches them. Cas shoots the animal and Niko tells Sasha to run, as more of the aliens approached them. However, they managed to make it back to the Salvare.
Sasha sees Michelle and is quiet, simply asking her what plans she had and leaves, with her following closely behind.
Sasha had a vision of himself, which scared him.
Michelle and Sasha are kissing and the former mentions he feels more alive than ever. She asks him if he had left all his good manners on the other moon, but he suddenly sees a hallucination of himself, which makes him throw Michelle.
Sasha told Zayn that he was not feeling well and seeing hallucinations of himself.
Sasha sees more hallucinations of himself and breathes heavily, while reassuring himself that the hallucinations were not real. He screams "shut up," and visits Zayn, who tells him his blood pressure was a little high and asks him how he had been sleeping. He tells hir that his mind is spinning and could not sleep, but ze tells him that insomnia happens to hir too. However, he describes the feeling as if stepping out of himself and looking back at himself. Ze tells him that that is a defense mechanism and he wonders if he is going crazy.
Sasha meditates, but when he opens his eyes, his hallucination is still there. The hallucination says that he is real and nothing would ever make him go away, telling him to accept it so they could proceed.
Niko is brought into the Salvare, hypothermiac while Sasha still battles his hallucination, wanting to commit suicide, which his other version mocks him for, telling him to let him in instead.
Sahsa told Zayn he was feeling a lot better.
Bernie and Zayn are together, when Sasha walks into the room. They offer their condolences about Michelle. Sasha tells Zayn to not show him his results since he was feeling like a better version of himself. When they both leave, Sasha looks at his brain scan and deletes the file.
Beauchamp got right to work, which Niko liked.
Beauchamp says that he can run diagnostics to discover what was happening with the dark matter, while Sasha listens. Niko mentions that his excitement and enthusiasm is nice. She tells Sasha that they were getting up to speed on what would happen when they reached Canis Majoris. Sasha asks what could happen upon entering contact with dark matter, but Niko says that she does not like what she is not able to see. Beauchamp says that the dark matter could be a smokescreen and Sasha is worried, but Niko tells them to stick to protocol.
Cas and William go over food rations, while Sasha listens. Cas complains about the mess and stops Bernie from grabbing extras. Sasha asks if the storage modules were not full of food and Cas tells him that they were taking precautions. Sasha is worried about entering dark matter and says that they should figure out how to defend themselves.
Sasha talked to Bernie in order to find out how to deactivate William.
Bernie tells Sasha that he knows he is stressed out and offers him a smoke of the plants that had drugged Niko and Cas. This worries Sasha, but Bernie tells him that it was fine. Sasha complains about William being a pain in the ass, which Bernie agrees with. Sasha says that they should not be at his mercy, which caused Michelle's death and wanted to turn him off. Bernie offers him the drug and Sasha smokes it.
Niko told Sasha to stay out of her way.
Zayn tells Niko not to worry about Cas, since grief takes its own path. Sasha asks Niko for a word and tells her that he needs to know everything that would happen when they reached Canis Majoris, but she tells him that he does not have security clearance, which Sasha calls bullshit. Niko asks Sasha who he thinks he is, because she does not care what he does down there, not wanting him on the mission and telling him that he was only there so his father would shut up. She tells him that he is arrogant, entitled, and lazy, saying that she would change his life for Michelle's because they do not need him.
Sasha went into Javier's head in order to find out how to turn William off.
Sasha approaches Javier and tells him that he knew that he was arrested many times as a teenager for hacking. He tells Javier that people were hiding stuff from them, like fighting back when they landed. Javier tells him that he had investigated before leaving and tells him that there is something called Operation Brimstone, which included the bubble that could form around the ship. They can aim that energy into a beam and blow up an entire planet if the aliens were hostile. Sasha asks if that came from the president and Javier tells him that the instruction also came from his father. Sasha asks if Javier can turn William off, but the latter only says he needs to get back to work. Sasha pins Javier to the ground, ordering him to tell him how to turn William off and destroy the ship as his eyes turned white. Two needles come out of Sasha's eyes and go into Javier's.
Egan prepares to go inside the Artifact, but as he approaches it, sees Sasha drilling into Javier's eyes. He calls for his son, and Sasha turns around, but the Artifact starts turning black. Erik approaches from behind as Jana follows and a huge soundwave knocks everybody to the ground. Egan gets up and is blasted once again by Sasha.
William asks why his programming is hurting. Sasha asks him if he is alright, but William says that he cannot save the Salvare, to which Sasha responds that he will help him.
August says that she feels claustrophobic not knowing where they were going, but Oliver says that it was alright. Sasha asks Bernie if he can sit with everyone and gives them a salad. There is a lot of food on the table in order to do intermittent fasting. Niko says that they have to ration, which everybody is okay with.
Beauchamp asks Sasha if he thought what he had put into the salad was oregano, and Sasha simply says that he had raided Bernie's stash. Bernie says that he has that plant because he needs help sleeping, so he self-medicates. August complains that now he had self-medicated everybody, so Niko tells him to use his head. Niko says that they should use different things to try to flush the drugs out, but William advises against it. Oliver says that both him and August could not have hallucinated the same thing, but Beauchamp tells him that what they saw were electrically charged, cold hydrogen particles.
Sasha says that he will be in his room sleeping off the drugs, but Beauchamp is placed in charge because he is the only one sober, but he leaves. William projects a party for the crew and Niko says that the drugs amplify her emotions and feelings which were currently happy and fun. She asks William if he can dance and he says he can do any dance she could possibly want. He starts dancing, which surprises Niko as Sasha watches seriously.
Sasha and Javier realized that William loves Niko.
Sasha approaches Javier, which scares him, but he does not know why. Sasha asks what is happening with William, but Javier only sees the way that William looks at Niko, which he realizes were looks of love. Javier does not know how that would affect William, but is dragged away by August, who says that they have to become friends again.
Sasha tries walking away from the party, but William stops him because Beauchamp had ordered everybody to stay there. However, Sasha tells him that he was sober, but William tells him that he could close every door on the ship. Sasha asks him why he does not go back to dance with Niko since she would get lonely and tells him that he knows he loves Niko. He tells William that Niko really likes him too. Niko says that she has to sleep and William says that if Niko says it is okay, then he was fine with it. Sasha tells William to follow Niko so she made it to her bed safe and sound.
After leaving August and Oliver, Javier is locked out because his ID is already in use in the particle accelerator, which confuses him. He runs there and asks Sasha if he had hacked his access code. However, Sasha simply asks if it had worked, shoving him and pinning him against the wall. He complains that he had done everything he was supposed to do, grabbing it from his brain, but William still would not shut down. and says that he would now take everything.
Sasha's hallucination asks him why William is still on, and Sasha tells him that it was not possible. The hallucination tells him that the Salvare was still a planet destroyer and so Sasha suggests waking all the engineers up. However, he hears William scream.
William told Sasha how to restart him to end his suffering.
Sasha approaches William, who is in pain. He says he cannot cope and process while managing the ship. Sasha offers his help. William complains that Niko does not love her and so Sasha suggests that he should restart himself, but says that he needs Javier. He gives Sasha instructions on what to do and shuts down. Sasha is worried and looks at his hallucination in disbelief. After this, Sasha finally deactivates William.
Niko and Cas fought Sasha, truing to stop him from blowing the ship up.
Niko tells Sasha to get his hands off Beauchamp as the latter screams while getting his eyes drilled into. Cas grabs Sasha from behind and starts choking him, opening the door for Niko, who grabs Beauchamp's body. Sasha locks Niko out of the control room, and Niko apologizes for having treated him poorly, so Sasha asks if William also deserved better.
An alarm starts sounding and August says that the temperature in the particle accelerator was elevating, but she was stuck. Zayn and Bernie are in the lab, which was getting hot. However, Sasha turned off the comms and was trying to make the ship blow up. Niko understands why the aliens would choose Sasha, but focuses on getting August to the particle accelerator, telling Cas to focus on Sasha.
Bernie reengaged the cooling systems, which angered Sasha.
Bernie walks into the particle accelerator and reengages the cooling systems successfully, which Sasha recognizes as a challenge and reengages the cooling systems. Bernie and Sasha go back and forth until Bernie electrocutes the system and himself at the same time, severing the connection to the cooling systems.
Sasha tells the Salvare to cut oxygen to every deck below observation, but the ship tells him that it had to be done manually and instructs him how to do it. Sasha's head starts hurting a lot and he accesses a new data bank, scanning local quadrants until he finds out that there was activity in the soma room.
Azami died thanks to Sasha, which Niko tried negotiating.
Niko wakes Azami up manually and is contacted by Sasha, who knew that Azami did not compare to Javier. They tell each other that they could not win and Sasha asks her about Operation Brimstone, but Niko said that she did not want to hurt anybody and knew Sasha wanted peace as well. Sasha asks since when humans had cared about peace, but Niko says that she would not blow up a planet. Sasha reminds her about what she did to William and she tells him that he would be killing a bunch of kids for something that was only a possibility, but Sasha says he does not have a choice because it was not him, but the Achaia, which makes his head hurt.
Niko tells him to tell the Achaia that they do not want to fight or go to war because it was not why they were there. She tells Sasha that if he kills everybody on the ship, he would force humanity's hand, but he instructs the Salvare to cut oxygen to Azami, which started asphyxiating Azami. Niko tells Sasha to think for himself as she tries to open Azami's tube up, but the latter ends up dying.
Beauchamp wakes up to see Cas and says that Sasha was looking for weaknesses in his defenses in his brain. They decide to look for Niko to see how they could get him off the ship.
The FTL engines are engaged and they head deeper into dark matter. August says that the files shown were not originated from anywhere in the ship's systems, which Sasha was able to do because of the symbiotic relationship between the alien in his brain and him. Beauchamp realizes they were headed for a black hole, so Niko tells them that they were going to abandon ship and head straight for Pi Canis Majoris.
Niko wakes up to Sasha nearly hitting her head with an axe. She runs from him and keeps calling William as she runs from Sasha. As they near the black hole, Sasha grabs her, but she fights until he chokes her.
Niko figured that she could plug Sasha into the ship in order to give them power.
When Niko wakes up, William tells her that they do not have much time since he had blasted the deck with electricity, but he had taken the bad part of it. However, they were still headed straight for the black hole. Niko figures that the thing in Sasha's head had a power source and wonders if that could give them the boost they needed to escape.
Cas moves the small shuttle, which surprises the crew since Niko was not there. They head straight towards Pi Canis Majoris. Beauchamp says that they could not pull away from the black hole, but Cas tells her to shut up. Cas does not listen, but August tells them to look at how the stars were warping and the Salvare shows up again. Niko tells them to come back since she was with William again, having connected Sasha's brain to the energy source.
Sasha is taunted by the hallucination, telling it to get out of his head. Zayn says that if Sasha died, ze could study the Achaian object on his brain, but Bernie says that it was not his fault. Zayn says that Javier and Azami did not ask to die and would not let the Achaians put something in hir head ever. Sasha tells Bernie that Zayn is right and begs him to kill him.
August asks Sasha if he can help Javier, but he is unresponsive. August tells him of everything he could do for humanity and is called by Zayn to perform her pregnancy test, which comes out positive. Zayn tells her to consult with the father if she wants to keep it or not.
Sasha choked Zayn, saying he did not want to be a guinea pig.
Sasha starts having a seizure and Zayn rushes in to help him. However, she is grabbed by the throat by Sasha, who tells Bernie to kill him or he would kill Zayn since he did not want to be a guinea pig. Sasha says that they could not work it out and Bernie shoots him.
Beauchamp tells Cas what William had done with the object inside Sasha's head and reveals that Sasha was dead.Personality[]
While he does come off as weak-willed in some situations, this is from the fact that he is unprepared and perhaps naïve about what the mission will entail. Due to this, he is unprepared for the issues he and the team faces. As diplomatic liaison, his goal is to make contact with the species that sent the Artifact. While reluctant to do little more to help, he has a desperate desire to be seen as just as valuable to the team as any of the others.
Relationships[]
While he has/had no known relationships prior to the mission, he strikes up a friendly relationship with Michelle Vargas, that eventually becomes sexual. This ends due to her untimely death.
Physical Appearance[]
He is white, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He is also notably older than the majority of the crew, and is rather handsome (noted by August Catawnee) in episode one.
