Another Life is an American science fiction drama web television created by Aaron Martin that premiered on Netflix on July 25, 2019[1]. Starring Katee Sackhoff and Selma Blair, it was ordered direct-to-series on April 26, 2018.[2]

On October 29, 2019, it was announced that Netflix has picked up a 10-episode second season of the series. Sackhoff just revealed the renewal news on social media.[3] It will premiere in fall 2021 on Netflix.

On February 21, 2022, it was announced that Katee Sackhoff revealed on Twitter that Netflix cancelled that series.[4]

Synopsis[]

Another Life follows the story of an astronaut and a space crew, who are on a mission to investigate the origins of an alien artifact that mysteriously appeared on Earth. As the crew attempt to search for alien intelligence, they face inexplicable horrors that might signal the end of their mission.

On April 26, 2018, it was announced that Netflix had given the production a series order for a ten-episode first season. The series is created by Aaron Martin, who is credited as an executive producer alongside Noreen Halpern. In June 2019, it was confirmed that the series would premiere on July 25, 2019. On October 29, 2019, it was announced that Netflix has picked up a 10-episode second season of the series from Halfire Entertainment.[5]

Casting[]

On April 26, 2018, it was announced that Katee Sackhoff had been cast as a series regular. On August 21, 2018, it was reported that Selma Blair[6] had joined the cast in a recurring role. On August 28, 2018, it was announced that Tyler Hoechlin, Justin Chatwin, Samuel Anderson, and Elizabeth Ludlow had joined the cast.[7] The following day, Blu Hunt joined the cast.[8] In September 2018, the rest of the main cast was revealed.[9]

On June 23, 2020, it was announced that Tongayi Chirisa had been cast as a series regular on the second season. Additionally, Dillon Casey, Shannon Chan-Kent and Kurt Yaeger joined in recurring roles.[10]

Filming[]

Filming for the first season took place on location in Vancouver, Canada from August 20, 2018 to November 20, 2018.[11]

Filming for the second season was expected to begin on March 2, 2020, and conclude on June 9, 2020.[12] Production was halted in Canada due to COVID-19 pandemic. The shutdown was done out of precaution and in compliance with bans on large gatherings, travel and other restrictions by authorities in the U.S. and abroad.[13] After numerous delays, the second season of Another Life was finally able to continue filming in late 2020.[14] Filming for the second season resumed on August 28, 2020, and was scheduled to conclude on November 24, 2020.[15][12] Production wrapped in December 2020.[16]
